Boarding and Day Camp for Dogs

Before starting Dogs at Camp, Glen Kowarsky had rescued a dog from the ‘Broward Country Humane Society’ in Fort Lauderale, Florida.  That dog, Abby, came from an abusive situation in her previous home, and as if that wasn’t enough, she was also Epileptic – and suffered from seizures as a result.

Between her anxiety and fear, and her seizures, Abby was somewhat of a ‘needy’ dog (to say the least!).  Leaving her, therefore, was a tremendous challenge.  A seizure in Abby’s case, was often the direct result of a situation in which she felt anxious, and Glen did all he could to try to keep her from circumstances which could have left her feeling uneasy – for that reason.

Glen’s family members would generally help out when he needed to be out of town. On one particular occasion, a trip was planned, but family members were not available to ‘dog sit’.  Glen began to look at every possible ‘boarding’ option for Abby, but could not find one with which he felt comfortable given Abby’s particular needs.

Necessity is indeed the mother of invention.  Glen began to do some research by talking to numerous other dog owners, and found that many others shared his concerns.  Many hadn’t traveled for years, as they simply wouldn’t leave their dogs.

Glen dreamed of a place with lots of space, staffed by people who knew and loved dogs…

…and thanks to Abby, from that vision, we welcome you to Dogs at Camp!
